Theraflu ExpressMax comes in a number of different formulations and the drug combinations are not all the same. Some examples of formulations that may be available and the medications they contain are:Theraflu ExpressMax Severe Cold & Flu Caplet Acetaminophen is used for fever, headache, aches and pains. Dextromethorphan is used as an antitussive to help control cough. Guaifenesin is used as an expectorant to help thin and remove mucus. Phenylephrine is used as a decongestant for temporary relief of nasal congestion. Theraflu ExpressMax Daytime Severe Cold & Cough Acetaminophen is used for fever, headache, aches and pains. Diphenhydramine is a first generation antihistamine that helps with runny nose and can also be used as a sleep aid since it causes sedation or drowsiness. If stomach upset is sometimes an issue, taking this medication with food will help. However, it is fine to take any of the Theraflu ExpressMax formulations on an empty stomach.
