Amiodarone is a potent inhibitor to a number of drug metabolizing enzymes and drug transporters, including CYP3A4, CYP2C9, and P-glycoprotein. In addition, the expected hepatic, thyroid and pulmonary side effects of amiodarone are much more pronounced in the elderly population.
